Even royals, with all their relaxing private jet travel, personal chefs and assistants, need to keep track of their 40 winks. The proof? The black ring Prince Harry has been sporting on his right hand.
On his left ring finger, the Duke of Sussex wears his platinum wedding band, and on the right he was recently spotted wearing a black titanium bit of bling called the Oura Ring.
Oura Heritage Ring
The smartphone-connected device is equipped with a 3D accelerometer and gyroscope to track body temperature, blood volume pulse and body movement. Which is basically to say the sleek ring knows when you’re sleeping, when you’re awake and what you’re up to during those times.
Harry’s ring is Oura’s Heritage design, a simple wide band with flattened top. His is shiny black, but the ring also comes in matte black, silver and rose gold.
Oura’s second design option is called Balance. The band width is similar, but the ring comes to an elegant peak at the top. Prices start at AU$423 for both rings, but for AU$1400, you can add a row of wee diamonds to the Balance ring.
Does it work?
For an accurate reading of sleep and waking patterns, obviously the wearer has to actually wear the device. That’s why Harry’s Oura ring is so genius. It’s no more cumbersome than a wedding band and it looks pretty slick, so there’s no reason to take it off, even in the shower.
According to Oura, the ring is water resistant up to 100m, which means you can wear it in the shower, bath or when you go swimming.
Harry and Meghan are visiting Fraser Island and Fiji this week, so presumably Harry can fit in a snorkelling session, Oura ring firmly on his finger, between all their formal engagements.
According to Kensington Palace, Meghan is expecting in spring 2019, our autumn. So Harry has a good five months left of reasonable sleeping results on his tracker. When the baby comes though, all that will go out the window. Since they’re modern royals, we don’t expect a wet nurse to be the one waking up with bub for all the 2am feeds.
