Salad: one of life’s most divisive topics. Done right, it can be one of the easiest and fastest ways to lose weight. But, done wrong – think: limp greens and carrot shavings on a daily rotation – it’s more likely to leave us feeling like we would rather eat our own arm off.

Thankfully though, Jennifer Garner gets it – and has come to the rescue! Typical Jen, right? The health-conscious actress recently shared her go-to salad formula which she says always leaves her feeling satisfied. And hey, we’re listening.

In a recent Instagram post, she explains how salads used to mean “limp carrot shavings and too-cold tomatoes” but since then her mindset has changed. “Now, salads are a celebration of what’s seasonal and handy,” she writes.

Her secret? Garner says she always makes chooses ingredients from a wide range of categories: greens (duh), veggies ‘ “you don’t need croutons if you have something crunchy in there” – grains/protein, fats and a splash of dressing. And let’s not forget game-changing ingredient, avocado.

Convinced yet? Us too. Here is Garner’s go-to list for a winning mix every time and so “you aren’t battling a dinner plate-sized hunk of lettuce every other bite”.

A blend of greens:

  • Kale
  • Rocket
  • Sweet mix
  • Swiss chard

Veggies:

  • Green beans
  • Broccoli
  • Capsicums
  • Shaved Brussels sprouts
  • Roasted sweet potatoes

Fats:

Grains/protein

  • A big scoop of warm brown rice
  • Chicken
  • Whatever else sounds good

Dressing of your choice

  • Straight olive oil
  • Red wine/balsamic vinegar
