It seems as though you can’t go a single day without reading or hearing something about the trendiest diet of the moment: the keto diet. The central idea is that it’s low-carb to the absolute max; those on the ketogenic diet need to consume 75 per cent of their daily calories from fat, 20 per cent from protein, and only five percent from carbohydrates. By doing so, your body enters a fat-burning mode known as ketosis, where it turns to fat instead of glucose for fuel.

While celebrities didn’t start the trend, there’s no arguing that they’ve certainly added a lot of fuel to the fire. Here are the biggest celebs who can’t get enough of the keto diet.

Halle Berry

The 51-year-old actress is definitely not shy when it comes to sharing her obsession with the keto diet. Her #FitnessFriday sessions on Instagram have become a hit, where each week she shares her biggest exercise and diet tips with her personal trainer Peter Lee Thomas – which involves a lot of keto talk.

She told PEOPLE in 2018 that she’s a huge meat-eater and never fills up on starchy carbs or sugar.

“I don’t really eat pasta, anything with sugar, it’s very much meat-based,” Berry explained. “I eat meat, I enjoy chicken and beef and a lot of vegetables.”

She also “eats healthy fats all day long”, which include avocado, coconut oil and butter.

Her love for the keto diet is so intense that she even has her kids hooked on it, too. “My kids love stuffed zucchini halves. They’re my answer to a stuffed baked potato,” Berry said. “They love it.”

The Kardashians

Surprise, surprise – the world’s most influential family has also jumped on the keto bandwagon, and with good reason, too. Kourtney Kardashian revealed she went keto after doctors found high levels of mercury in her blood. Although she shared in her app that the transition into ketosis was a “really positive experience”, she also admitted that she suffered from headaches and low energy during the first couple of weeks. To combat any symptoms of the ‘keto flu’ now, she makes sure she gives herself a “treat yourself day” each week.

As for Kim, she reportedly lost 27kgs after having her son, Saint, while on the Atkins 40 diet. This is essentially the original keto diet and involves a very limited intake of carbs and high amounts of fat. The main difference is that on the Atkins diet you’ll slowly reintroduce carbs, so ketosis likely will only come into play during the first phase.

Megan Fox

She’s known for her toned and slim physique, which is why after giving birth to her three children, Fox turned to the keto diet to get her pre-baby body back. The Transformers actress told E! News back in 2014 that she cut out bread and all carbs, including pretzels, chips and crackers – “I don’t eat anything fun.” In fact, she went so clean that she admitted the worst thing she’d consume on any given day would be a coffee.

Adriana Lima

What does it take to get the body of a Victoria’s Secret angel? Sorry to say, but you need to ditch the carbs and hit the gym for two-hours a day – and this is exactly what Lima did to prep for the Victoria’s Secret Show a few years back. “Definitely zero carbs for sure”, she said in an interview with The Cut. Her diet consisted of chicken (skin and bone included), lots of green veggies, and protein shakes as snacks. Since then the diet seems to have stuck, and she skips carbs in her daily life because they leave her feeling “swollen.”

Alicia Vikander

The two months before shooting for her role as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider, the Swedish actress adopted the keto diet to get into tip-top shape.

According to her trainer, Magnus Lygdback, it was a huge reason Vikander saw such a positive difference in her body, both in how she felt and how she looked.

“Since we were traveling so much over the holidays, we decided the keto diet would be best because it’s easier to control the macros that way,” Lygdback told POPSUGAR. “It was a high-fat, no-carb diet—not even low-carb. It’s always tricky the first couple of days, but [Alicia’s] willpower is just unbelievable, and she didn’t complain, even though I could see she was struggling a little bit. She kept on bringing it every day.”

Alicia subbed out her carbs in favour of plenty of fats and protein, including lots of fish and seafood, as well as “MCT oil, avocado, and coconut oil as a fat source”. Vikander paired these with some veggies, but according to Magnus, was careful not to over eat “because you don’t want to go above 25 grams a day”.
